All Day Parking 1999

'All Day Parking' takes the form of an installation for three monitors and a single channel experimental documentary. The work documents the empty parking spaces where a block of Victorian flats stood in Symonds Street until their recent demolition. The images are stills of the developers no-man’s land that is left behind.
The narrative is driven by audio interviews with former occupants
of the historic buildings; small business owners, a skate boarder who viewed the midnight demolition, an artist whose mother occupied the buildings as a girl and a former local at the Astor Hotel pub, also demolished.
