15 Minute Wait 2001
LOCATION The Moving Image Centre, Auckland
The Film Archive, The Film Archive, Wellington
Utilising a mix of DVD video projection, closed circuit television, a waiting-room set and a “foley” style soundtrack, '15 Minute Wait' invites the viewer to try to solve the mystery of the mute drama being played out on screen. The fragmentary evidence revealed by the surrounding soundscape (e.g. sounds of a scuffle) and the set
(e.g. a pack of cards lying spilled from an upturned table) serves to assist the viewer in their investigation and heighten their sense of unease at what they see.
While one screen presents the film as a closed object, another catches the viewer unawares on CCTV, in the act of both seeing and being seen simultaneously in the 'real space' of the room set.
