Viewing Floor 2002
LOCATION Royal and Sun Alliance Building, Room 401, Auckland
‘Viewing Floor’ is an installation for a closed circuit camera
on a 180 degree rotating head and four monitors set into
viewing platforms.
The rotating camera takes in the interior space of an empty office,
the audience and the city view from the window. The other viewing platforms display pre-recorded images of the process of installing the work; cleaning the room, painting the plinths and setting up the monitors which are also captured by the revolving camera.
The second version of this work called ‘Roomspace’ was exhibited at Room 401 gallery as a joint show with Jeena Shin. The pre-recorded monitors document her process of making a wall painting. The audio tones pan side-to-side mirroring the left to right pan of the camera.
